Abstract

Character development is a fundamental pillar in shaping a complete Muslim individual who contributes positively to society. In the context of Islamic education in Indonesia, pesantren play a central role in instilling spiritual values and building strong moral foundations through distinctive teaching systems. This study explores the management of character development at Pondok Pesantren Tahfidz Al Qur’an Baytul Mukarromah, focusing on the strategies implemented by male supervisors in guiding students. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis to gain a comprehensive understanding of the processes, challenges, and strategies applied. The findings reveal that character development management involves structured stages, including planning, implementation, and evaluation, with emphasis on religious practices, discipline, and exemplary behavior. Supervisors act as role models, demonstrating honesty, patience, humility, and consistency in daily interactions, which significantly influence students’ moral growth. The study highlights the importance of innovative and contextual strategies to address contemporary challenges such as digitalization and social media exposure. While the results are specific to the pesantren studied, they provide valuable insights into effective character management practices that can inform future research and educational development in similar institutions.
